How To Deep Condition Braids/Twists

Hey guys! How has your weekend been so far? I've had my Kinky Twists for about 3 weeks and I decided to deep condition them today.

I usually don't deep condition my hair while it's in braids and I think that's why sometimes it feels dry after I take out my braids even when I've been spritzing.

PREPOO

The first thing to do before deep conditioning is to prepoo. I prepood by oiling my scalp with grapeseed oil.

DEEP CONDITION

To deep condition, I used a regular rinse out conditioner (V05 Herbal Escapes Ocean Refresh Conditioner) mixed with castor oil and a little shea butter. I still don't have an actual deep conditioner since I stopped using the Cantu Deep Treatment Masque.

I put my twists into 8 sections to make things easier for me. Then, on each section, I used my deep  conditioning mix from my roots to the part of the twists where my hair stops. After doing this on each section, I wrapped my hair with a plastic bag. I planned on deep conditioning for about 30 minutes but 30 minutes turned into over 2 hours.

To wash my hair, I used the V05 conditioner and warm water.

MOISTURISE

To moisturise, I used glycerine, leave in conditioner and grapeseed oil on my scalp. Then, I used glycerine, leave in conditioner and castor oil from my roots to the part of the twists where my hair stops.

I really hope this will make a difference and reduce dryness and breakage when I take out my twists. If it does then yayy and if it doesn't, I'm not doing it again..it was a bit long.

Do you deep condition your hair while it's in braids? Does it make a big difference?

Have a lovely weekend!

Weekend Recap: Fun At The Beach

Hey guys! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty awesome... at least on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, I went for Afropolitan vibes but I didn't stay long. I tried taking pictures but my camera was doing this annoying Panorama thing and I couldn't figure out how to put it back on the normal setting. I should have taken pictures with my phone now that I think about it. It was really cool and I'd definitely go for the next one. After that, I went for 2 birthday get togethers but I only stayed for about 30 minutes each so it was quite a busy Friday.

On Saturday, I went to Ilashe beach resort with my cousin and some friends :D. It had been a while since I had been to the beach so I was pretty excited.

I wonder what I was laughing about
Walking crabs :D

Someone's bendy rollers lol

On Sunday, I went to my Nysc local government for the head count/census :|. I heard about it on Saturday but when people kept talking about it and I found out they were also doing it on Sunday, I knew it had to be quite important. It only took about 5 minutes so at least I didn't spend my whole day there. Apparently, in Abuja theirs took hours.

What did you get up to over the weekend?

Have a beautiful week!!

Kinky Twists!

Helloo my beautiful readers! How are you doing this fine Monday afternoon? I'm still trying to get the hang of this being positive about Mondays thing. How was your weekend? Hope it was great.

I got kinky twists about a week ago and I must say I really missed this hairstyle. The last time I had kinky twists was when I was in law school 2 years ago and I had it for 7 weeks. I washed it every 2-3 weeks and spritzed but when I took it out, my hair was still very dry and I had a lot of breakage. Looking back, I now realise that 7 weeks in the same hairstyle was too much for my hair to handle. Back then though, I blamed it on the kinky twists and I've been too scared to do it.

Anyway, I got over my fear and I have a plan. I'm only going to keep the twists for 3 or 4 weeks and I won't just spritz my scalp but I'll also moisturise up to the part of the kinky twists where my hair stops. So far, I've been spritzing my scalp with just water and glycerine. I also used grapeseed oil once. For my hair, after spritzing, I used a mix of my Kinky Curly Knot Today leave in and shea butter.

I used 2 and a half packs of Supreme Royal Silk Afro Twist Braid in Colour 1. I didn't want the twists to be too long and I think the length is just right. I'm really happy with the way it turned out and it's exactly what I wanted so yayy.

Have you tried Kinky twists? How do you take care of your hair when it's in this style?

Have a lovely week!

Hans And René

Hey people! I finally went to Hans & René!! I had heard about it but I wasn't interested till I found out they had dairy free ice cream. I went with my cousin on Thursday and I was so excited because I haven't had ice cream in about a year which has been really hard by the way.

I loved the ceiling and I just had to get a picture of it.. too cute!

My cousin and I were given a little tour of the place lol. Look how cool the wallpaper in the bathroom is!

Posing on a wallpaper chair is actually much harder than it looks but it looks awesome right?

Sorbets
I tasted the Zobo sorbet and it tasted really good. I might have that the next time I go there.

I had the Rice milk vanilla & chocolate gelato with the red velvet cone. I really liked the vanilla and the red velvet cone. The chocolate was okay but I wouldn't get it again.

My cousin had the regular vanilla and nutella gelato. She also had a mocha which she really loved.

Hans & René is at Radisson Blue Hotel in Victoria Island.

If you know any other places that have dairy free ice cream please let me know in the comments. Also, don't forget to subscribe by e-mail and share this post if you liked it!

Have a lovely week!

Wash Day Gone Wrong

Hey guys! How has your week been? Looking forward to resting this weekend? I know I am :) As you can tell from the title of this post my Wash day didn't go so well. Here's what happened.

On Wednesday evening I took out my Bob braids which took so long for some reason. I think the hair stylist was making the braids smaller as she went on which is so surprising. Usually by the time I get to the middle and the top part of my hair, the braids there are so massive.

PRE-POO

After taking out my braids, I prepood with Grape seed oil on my scalp and castor oil on my hair. Then, I twisted my hair and did the Green house effect overnight and my hair felt quite good the next morning.

I also finger detangled my hair. It was so much easier and took less time because of my trim as there were no knots getting in my way.

RHASSOUL CLAY WASH

I've been really happy with the short Wash days I've been having since I started using Rhassoul Clay. I just prepoo overnight, mix my Rhassoul clay and leave it in my hair for 10 minutes before washing it out and moisturising.

I usually mix my Rhassoul clay with glycerine and castor oil. This time, I mixed it with grape seed oil and castor oil, no glycerine. I've almost mastered the art of getting all the clay through my hair within a little over 5 minutes.. unlike the first time where it took me over 10 minutes.

After washing it out, I used my Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave In on a small portion of my hair at the back. I can't even describe how my hair felt....no really I actually can't but let me try. It felt rough and stiff.. I couldn't even finger comb that part of my hair even with my leave in. I panicked a bit because, my hair has never felt like that and that part is the softest part of my hair so you can imagine how the rest of my hair felt.

So, I washed my hair again with just water twice. After that, I moisturised with my leave in and castor oil. Then, I did the Green house effect overnight.

What Went Wrong?

I think part of the reason it didn't go well is the fact that I didn't use glycerine in my Clay mix and I introduced Grape seed oil to the mix. The mixture was also really watery.

My  hair feels much better now even though it doesn't feel as moisturised as I feel it should. I plan on moisturising my hair this evening with my leave in, glycerine and a little shea butter.

The next time I use Rhassoul clay I'll stick to glycerine and castor oil, and deep condition after.

Has something similar happened to you? What did you do about it?

Have a lovely weekend!

1st Post Of The Month: What I Did Last Weekend

Hey guys! It's a new month again! This year is seriously going fast and I seem to say that in all my first posts of the month. Anyway, for me it means NYSC is slowly coming to an end. God is good.

What did you get up to last weekend? On Friday, I didn't do much. I don't even remember what exactly I did. I probably just watched a little TV and looked at Twitter and Instagram. I've been using Twitter a lot to entertain myself recently.. so many interesting memes, vines and 'beefs' lol.

My Saturday was quite busy. My cousin, who made the dress I wore to a wedding in this post, was taking some professional pictures of some of the new dresses she designed and she asked me to do her make up.

In the evening, I did Beeba of Beeba's Wardrobe's make up for her 25th Birthday! Unfortunately, I don't have the professional pictures yet but when I do, I'll do a post on her birthday make up.  If you want to see a few looks I did when I trained at MUD Academy, you can read this post.

After doing Beeba's make up, we headed to Sakura Restaurant, V.I for her surprise birthday dinner. That was my second time at Sakura. The first time  was with The Lunch Club and you can see a lot of pictures of the food here. The food was really good again, she loved the surprise and we all had a great time. The staff was also really nice and gave us a free bottle of wine to celebrate her birthday.

Birthday Princess!!

On Sunday, I followed my aunt to set up a cake she made for a wedding. The hall was divided into 2 sections. One section was for the Traditional Wedding and the second section was for the Reception. So, they had the wedding On Saturday and decided to do both the Trad and Reception on Sunday. I hadn't heard of that before and I found that quite interesting.

I don't know why but I just really like this

How cute is this?

After that, I did a few chores and then binge watched One Tree Hill for the rest of the day.. I know I'm like 10 years late lol. It's an awesome show though I'm still on Season 3.

I guess that's what I got up to last weekend! Have a great week and a great month people!

Till next time ;)
