Hans & René After Dark

Hey guys!! How has your week been so far? I hope it's been going great!

Last year, in the last week of the year, I was on Instagram and I saw that Hans & René was having an event, "Hans & René After Dark". I really love Hans & René as I'm sure a lot of people do and I had missed the first one, so I definitely wanted to go for this one and check it out.

I went with my cousins and before the event started, I had the salted caramel gelato :D. I have a big smile on my face because I had normal ice cream for the first time in over a year. The first time I went there, someone told me she was lactose intolerant but the gelato didn't have much milk and I could give their normal gelatos a try. I wasn't willing to experiment though, so I didn't even think about it. This time though, I decided to give it a try and it tasted so good, and my tummy was pleased :).

I decided to try a scoop or two again twice last week just to be sure lol and yepp I was fine. If you're lactose intolerant you understand my happiness.

Anyway, back to the event. The set up was nice and the event was a partnership with Ciroc so there were gelato cocktails.

We could choose whatever flavour of gelato we wanted and they would put it in the cocktail we chose. I chose the chilli kick and it tasted really good. I had asked for the sweetest cocktail they had but it was still too bitter for me so my cousin helped me finish it. I should have just gotten the gelato alone.

One reason I really liked the event was because there was a lot of free small chops :). The only thing I didn't like was the shawarma. It tasted a bit like paper.

Hans & René is at Radisson Blue Hotel in Victoria Island.

Makeup Post: Pretty in Pink

Hey guys! How are you? In yesterday's post, I mentioned that I did my aunt's makeup for a party on Sunday.

She wanted defined brows, very little eyeshadow and no little or no foundation. I used my Sleek Enchanted Forest eyeshadow palette with my Morphe 35W eyeshadow palettes and no false lashes.

I really like how the eyeshadow brightened up her face. The Sleek Enchanted Forest palette is one of my favourites for my clients who want simple makeup because, it has a lot of nice colours that aren't too bright but are still eye-catching. You can check out another look I did with this palette here.

What I Did Last Weekend: A Photoshoot & A Makeover

Hey hey! It's been a while since I've done a weekend post. That's mostly because I haven't gone out a lot for the past few weekends.

Before I go into what I did last weekend, did you see Eat.Drink.Lagos on CNN's African Voices yesterday?? They were interviewed about their blog, their Lunch Club and then there was footage of the Eat Drink Festival. I was so happy for them because it's obvious they work really hard on their blog and they're very consistent.

I did Folly's makeup on the day of the interview and I was a bit nervous because it was for CNN! Actually, I wasn't a bit nervous I was really nervous but it turned out really well. She wanted simple makeup with very little eyeshadow and no false lashes. She looked really pretty and I was happy she liked it.

Now, onto what I actually did last weekend. I went for a photoshoot on Saturday. I did my makeup for the shoot but I was also one of the models so I don't have a lot of pictures yet. We changed about 4 times and the shoot didn't end till evening but I had a lot of fun modelling.

When I get the pictures, you can expect a long blog post filled with the pictures :D

On Sunday, I did my aunt's makeup for a party. Like most of my clients, she wanted very simple makeup. I convinced her to do a little eyeshadow and I loved how it turned out. There'll be a blog post on this makeup look tomorrow with pictures and products used.

Thanks for reading and have a great week!

What did you get up to last weekend?

My Favourite Nude Lipsticks

Hey guys!! I'm back again with another makeup post :D. This time it's my favourite nude lipsticks. I think by now it's quite obvious that I love nude lipstick. You guys are probably tired of hearing it, but it is what it is :)

The last time I did a post on my favourite lipsticks was when I first started my blog and I think it was my first beauty post. You can read that here.

These are my favourite nude lipsticks paired with MAC lip pencil in Chestnut.

1. MAC VELVET TEDDY

This was my first nude lipstick and every time I use it someone asks me 'omg what lipstick is that??'. Okay, not every time and they don't say it that way but, almost every time I use it someone asks me what lipstick I used.

I love how easy it is to apply and I feel like it goes with every make up look. That's why I used it so much last year and now it's almost finished :(.

You can read my review of Velvet Teddy here.

2. REVLON MINK LIPSTICK

This was a Christmas present from my sister because she knew I was lusting after hers lol. I like how different this lipstick is from the nude lipsticks I'm used to. It's not matte and it's much darker than my other nude lipsticks.

3. MAC HONEYLOVE

I stopped by the MAC store a few months ago to buy another Velvet Teddy because it was almost finished but I ended up leaving with a different lipstick. I really like Honeylove even though the colour took some getting used to. When I use it, I have to be careful not to use too much because of how 'beigey' it is.

I think this lipstick would be really good for mixing with darker colours and for an ombre lip.

4. MAC MOCHA

I got this lipstick because a makeup artist used it for me at a wedding I went for in November 2014 and I really liked how it looked. When I got it months later, it looked a bit different from what I remembered but I really like it. I think it's a bit similar to the Revlon Mink lipstick.

I don't know why I kept looking to the side. I think I forgot I was taking pictures for a lipstick post and I was just having fun posing.

5. MAC HUG ME

I got this lipstick from my cousin and I love it. If you're not really sure you like nude lipsticks or you want to try out something really simple, you should give this a try. It looks very natural and it doesn't really change the colour of your lips, it just enhances it.

Lipstick Review: MAC Media

Hey guys!! How are you? I hope you had a lovely weekend. I didn't do much this weekend. To be honest, I didn't really do anything I just stayed at home.

When I first started blogging, I did quite a number of lipstick reviews but I haven't done one in a while and I've missed doing them. I got this lipstick late last year but I've only used it a few times.

This lipstick is described as "an intense reddish purple". It's quite vampy and very eye-catching.

It has a Satin finish just like MAC Rebel and I find it very easy to apply as it glides on smoothly. However, I had to apply it about 3 times to get the shade I wanted.

Another thing I like about this lipstick is that it stays on for a long time (as do most MAC lipsticks to be honest).

I'm not sure I really like how it looks on me though. I prefer how I look in nude, purple or red lipstick. I'll probably mix it with other colours rather than use it alone.

What do you think of this lipstick?

Have an awesome week!

4 Signs That It's Time for A Trim

Hey guys!! How has your week been so far? I hope it's been going great!

It’s been a while since my 1st trim and I was just thinking of all the things little that made me realise I needed a trim the first time. I ignored them for a while because, the thought of going to the salon to trim off many inches of my hair and losing a lot of length scared me. When the length of my hair remained the same for months, I decided there was no point holding on to dead ends when I could go for a trim and hopefully start retaining length again.

These are some of the signs that you are in need of a trim:

1. Your hair is breaking

There’s a difference between shed hair and broken hair. With shed hair there is a white “root” at the tip of the the strand, but with broken hair there is no white root. Broken hair is also much shorter than shed hair and of different lengths. If you’re experiencing a lot of breakage, one thing it could mean is that you’re due for a trim. If every time you touch your hair, finger comb your hair, or on washdays you lose much more hair than usual, the best thing to do is get that trim. This was the first sign for me.

2. Split ends & knots causing tangling

If you have a lot of split ends you’re probably due for a trim. If you also have a lot of knots, they can cause your hair to tangle a lot and this leads to breakage. The best thing to do at this point is to get a trim. After my trim, I noticed that my hair was so much easier to detangle and I could easily slide my fingers through my hair because I didn’t have a lot of knots and tangles anymore.

3. Dry ends

The ends of your hair are the oldest parts of your hair and they tend to get dry very easily. This is why when moisturising, you need to focus on that part of your hair and make sure you moisturise and seal that part of your hair. When you keep moisturising and sealing, and that part of your hair simply refuses to stay moisturised and always feels dry and straw-like, it’s time to get rid of those scraggly ends.

4. Little or no length retention

If you’re not retaining a lot of length, one of the reasons could be that you’re in need of a trim. Due to how much your hair breaks especially when it’s dry, you might not be retaining a lot of length, making it seem like your hair isn’t growing. The best thing to do at this point is, close your eyes and get that trim. Trust me, your hair will thank you for it. When you get your trim, it won’t be long before your hair catches up to where it was before your trim because you’ll be retaining more length than before the trim.

That being said, I’m due for another trim.

When was your last trim?

Classic Smokey Eye (Daytime & Night-time Look)

Hey guys!! How are you? What did you get up to last weekend? Saturday was my friend's call to bar dinner and Sunday was my little cousin's 1st birthday party, so at least I didn't stay at home all weekend. I had a pretty good weekend :D

When I learnt how to do a classic smokey eye in makeup school I did it all the time. I even did it for my call to bar. I got tired of it though, so I didn't do it for a while. On Saturday, I decided to do a classic smokey eye because it had been a while.

One thing I also wanted to revisit was red lipstick. When I first started wearing lipstick, I always used red lipstick because I loved it so much. I also go tired of it so I hardly used it last year and I mostly used nude lipstick. I still love my nude lippies but I wanted something a bit different for this look.

After taking pictures with the red lipstick, I couldn't resist finding out how it would look with nude lipstick so I changed my lipstick to my new House of Tara nude lipstain in Kahina.

I think the smokey eye with the nude lipstick would be really good for a lunch or a daytime event, and the smokey eye with the red lipstick would be good for a dinner. All you have to do is change your lipstick :D

How I Take Care Of & Style My Hair During the Harmattan (Dry) Season

Hey guys! So this Harmattan has refused to leave. I was hoping it would only last a few weeks and by now the weather wouldn't be so dry but here we are.

I don't really like the dry season because, it makes my hair dry and brittle and I have to keep moisturising. It also makes my skin dry but as long as I moisturise with coconut oil, I'm good.

When I first realised that harmattan was here, I decided to hide my hair in bob box braids. You can read how that turned out here.

After taking out my braids, I decided to just figure out how to take care of my hair in this weather.

CLEANSING

I still use Rhassoul clay to wash my hair once a month. I did this last week and I mixed my clay with Aloe vera juice instead of water and it made a big difference. Thanks Ekene :D.

I also co wash once a week or every 5 days with Yes to Carrots rinse out conditioner. Whenever I cowash, my hair usually feels much better.

DEEP CONDITIONING

I deep condition and steam my hair every week, with my Yes To Carrots conditioner mixed with castor oil.

MOISTURISING & SEALING

I moisturise with Kinky Curly Knot Today and seal with castor oil. I use the castor oil for my hair itself and grapeseed oil for my scalp because, applying castor oil directly to my scalp makes it itch.

One product I DO NOT use in this weather is glycerine. I always knew that glycerine shouldn't be used in dry weather because, the moisture would be sucked out of your hair but I tried it anyway and it was a disaster. Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit but my hair didn't feel good at all so I'll keep staying away.

One thing I tried yesterday though, was adding a little aloe vera juice to my spray bottle and so far, my hair feels good.

STYLING

I've mostly had my hair in puffs. Okay not mostly.. practically every time I'm going out. Sometimes, the puff is from a braid out, most times it's from bantu knots. My bantu knots actually turned out great thanks to the weather but I wasn't sure how to style it so I just put it in a puff.

How do you take care of your hair during the Harmattan season?

Have a lovely week!
