Hey guys! How has your week been? As usual I'm so happy it's Friday :D
I miss my braids :( but I won't be able to do them till next week so I've decided to talk about braids since I can't have them yet lol
Braids have a lot of benefits especially if done the right way. I would have spoken about the benefits of weaves as a protective style but for me, they just end up drying out my hair out and I feel they make my hair break a lot, leading to little to no length retention. If weaves work for you however, these benefits would also apply to you.
1. Aids Length Retention
Protective styling helps with length retention because you're not combing or styling your actual hair everyday and your hands are out of your hair which reduces breakage. So basically, you're protecting your hair from all the things you could be doing to your hair when it's out that make it dry or break more easily.
2. Time-saving
I love protective styles because of how much time it saves me in the morning. I can get more of my beloved sleep even if it's just 20 extra minutes because I don't have to style my hair if I don't want to.
3. They can help grow your edges
This depends on the style of braids and how the braids are done because I know braids can chop off all your edges especially if they're small braids. The time I had kinky twists last year for about 7 weeks, when I took them out my edges looked terrible.. well not soo terrible but they didn't look good at all. I started doing box braids with a little hair left out in front or 'brush'. Also, if you do small braids or small twists you can redo the edges after 2 or 3 weeks so the braids in front don't start twisting your hair and then eventually making them cut.
4. Low Maintenance
Braids or weaves are relatively low maintenance. I say this because you don't have to spend too much time taking care of them. This doesn't mean you shouldn't bother with your hair when it's in a protective style because if you do this, your hair might not benefit from being in a protective style. You can spritz your scalp 2-3 times a week or more if you like. You can also try and wash your hair every 2 weeks while it's in braids. This way, your scalp won't get dry and flaky and your scalp will stay healthy which will promote growth.
Oyime :)
You are so pretty!
