African Threading

Hey guys!

Have you heard of African threading? I remember doing it a lot when I was in Primary School.. I really didn't love it or hate it but I didn't like it when they wove all the threaded sections together. If they ever did that style of thread for you then you'll know what I'm talking about.

I read about threading as an alternative to blow drying and I tried it a year ago. I think my hair was threaded for like 3 days so  my hair was really stretched. The last  time I threaded my hair, it was just a mess but I think that was because I threaded it in big sections and I didn't really moisturise my hair before threading.

Here's what I did the first time:

I put my hair into about 10 sections and then moisturised each section with my Giovanni Leave in conditioner, glycerine and shea butter before threading each section. It took me such a long time to thread my hair because well, threading ain't easy (not for me at least). Anyway, like I said when I loosened the thread my hair was really stretched and my braids looked much neater.

On Friday, I decided to thread my hair because I wanted to do small twists on Saturday. I knew there was a possibility that my hair wouldn't really be stretched because it would only be threaded for about 12 hours but I still decided to give it a try.

I moisturised my hair with Cantu leave in conditioner mixed with glycerine and castor oil. I put it into about 15 sections and it took me about an hour.

I wasn't too happy with it when I loosened it in the morning :( I expected it to be much more stretched but I think considering the short time it was threaded for, I should have been happy.

The next time I thread my hair I'll do it 2-3 days before I braid my hair so it'll be much more stretched.

I think threading is a great alternative for stretching natural hair if you have time for it and you want to avoid putting heat in your hair.

Have you tried African Threading before? What was your experience with it?

Oyime :)
