My Current Favourite Hairstyle: Mini Twists + Extensions

Hey guys! How was your weekend? Mine was okay. I attended the Lagos Makeup Fair yesterday and it was good. It was really packed though, which I tried to avoid by going a bit early but there were still so many people there.

It's been a while since I've put up a hair post because nothing new has been happening with my hair. My hair is currently in mini twists. You can read about the first time I did mini twists here.

I really like mini twists, but the reason I stopped doing them was because whenever I did them myself, they got rough really fast unless I twisted them really tiny and the thought of twisting for hours stresses me out lol.

My current mini twists were done at a salon about a month ago, and I've never seen my hair look that neat without it being blow dried. I loved them but at the same time, I was looking forward to them getting a bit "rougher".  Now that they're a lot rougher they blend in better with the kinky extensions I add to the back of my hair.

The day after I got them done
Adding kinky hair extensions to mini twists totally transforms the look and I wish I had discovered this sooner.

Here's an easy pictorial of how I was able to achieve this style (thanks to my sister for the video detailing how to do this):

These are the kinky hair extensions and my mini twists after about a month of having them.

In the first picture, I folded the kinky hair extensions into two and tied the middle with a hair band. In the second, I attached the extensions to my hair by tying it twice onto the back of my hair, and in the third picture, I wrapped the extensions up into a 'doughnut'.

This is my current favourite style because of how easy it is to maintain and the little time it takes to get them done.

What do you think of this hairstyle? Have you tried it before?

Have a beautiful week!

Life Update.. Where Have I Been??

Hey guys! I feel like it's been forever since I've been here. Not just since I've blogged, but since I've actually visited my blog. I wasn't sure what to expect but from my stats, it seems a number of people have still been reading my posts and that makes me really happy.

This morning (now 2 weeks ago when I wrote this post), I woke up quite sad and discouraged because I felt like I'm not close to where I want to be. I quit my 9-5 a couple of months ago for a number of reasons, the most important being that I was very unhappy there and staying there wasn't bringing me any closer to my goals. When I left, I wasn't sure what exactly I planned on doing but I knew I definitely didn't plan on building a career there.

The first few months were okay apart from a lot of people telling me I was making a mistake. I knew this was going to happen before I left though, so I wasn't surprised or moved. The first month, I just took a break and in the 2nd month, I went for a makeup upgrade class. If you've been following this blog for a while you might remember that I went to Makeup School  about 4 years ago (read about it here) but I wasn't really doing it full time till this year. The upgrade class was really good for so many reasons and it built my confidence.

Instagram: @makeupbyoyime
So, I've been doing makeup full time for some months and it's been good. Some months are better than others, but it feels good doing one of the things you love and getting paid for it. It isn't always easy though, which this morning proved but I realise that I have to be patient and enjoy this season.

I have more time to blog now which I always enjoyed doing and for the thousandth time lol I'm going to try to be consistent with it.

Bridesmaid duties at my friend's wedding in July
As for a hair update, I'm not even sure what to say lol. My hair has just been misbehaving and I haven't been retaining much length for a while. If I'm being honest, I haven't really treated my hair the best for the past year or 2 due to laziness and lack of time. I've considered doing another big chop or cutting my hair into a short hairstyle but, I can't imagine cutting all my hair again even though I know it's just hair and it'll grow back.

My hair is currently in mini twists which I'm really enjoying. There'll be a post on this mini twist low bun  soon.

Mini twists and kinky hair extensions
Thanks for reading and I hope you've had a great year so far!

What have you been up to? How has your year been? I'd love to hear from you!

Juvia's Place Nubian 2 Eyeshadow Palette - Review & Swatches

Hey guys! It's been a while. It's the sixth month of the year already and I'm not too sure how I feel about that lol. I haven't yet achieved a lot of what I planned but there's still time. How are you guys doing with your resolutions for the year?

I've been meaning to review the Juvia's Place Nubian 2 Palette for a while and the review is finally here :D. I'm sure a lot of people that are into makeup have heard of Juvia's Place and how pigmented their eyeshadows are. It's a really popular brand owned by a Nigerian, Chichi Eburu.

I did a lot of research before buying the Nubian 2 Palette because I wasn't sure which of the palettes to try out first. A lot of people recommended this particular palette so I decided to give it a try.

This palette has 4 matte shades and 8 metallic/shimmer shades. The matte shades can be used as a transition colour and the shimmer shades on the lid.

I love using Morocco in my crease and Jezebel in my outer corner to give my eyeshadow look some depth. Yaa is one of my favourite metallic shades and Zuri looks really good for the inner corner highlight.

I love how bold Cleopatra and Nefertiti look whenever I use them. I haven't used Leyla to be honest because I don't really like how the colour looks but I'll give it a try. I wasn't too sure I liked Egypt either but I used it last weekend and it came out looking good.

For this look, I used 'Cleopatra' and 'Yaa' :)

For this look, I used Egypt on the lid, and Zuri for the inner corner highlight.

Final Thoughts

I really like this palette because of how pigmented the shades are. I also noticed that the shimmer/metallic shades come out much brighter when you apply them with your fingers. I love the fact that this palette has both transition shades and really bright shimmery shades so you can use just this palette for an eyeshadow look.

I loved the palette so much that I decided to try another of their palettes (The Masquerade Palette). If you'd like a review of the Masquerade Palette, let me know :).

I got this palette from Beauty Bay when I was in England in October, but I got the Masquerade Palette from BeautyRevNG and they stock other Juvia's Place palettes.

Have a lovely weekend!

Product Review - Arami Essentials

Hey guys!! How has your year been so far? Mine has been quite interesting. A lot of things have happened over the past few weeks but it's been a good year so far.

I heard about the Arami Essentials skin & hair care brand from Instagram and I saw a lot of good reviews on their products, so I wanted to try it out for a while but I never got round to it. Then in December, I decided to get their gift boxes for my mum and cousins for Christmas and I also got myself one :D.

I think this might be one of their most popular products but I could be wrong. I got the "Sweet Oud" glow oil for myself and it smells amazing and it's really moisturising for my skin. I don't use it on my face but I've seen quite a number of good reviews on it.

Their Body & Hair Food is just amazing! I used it a few weeks ago when I ran out of shea butter and I needed to seal my hair after a wash. I was pleasantly surprised when 2 or 3 days later, my hair was still so moisturised. It's whipped to perfection so it's really soft. I got the vanilla scented Body & Hair Food and it smells so good. Apart from the unscented Body & Hair Food, it also comes in Lemongrass which smells pretty good too.

The onyx body polish is another amaaazing product! Black soap usually dries out my skin but this one doesn't. I don't usually have issues with my face but when I started breaking out 2 weeks ago and I went back to using this product, my skin started clearing up almost immediately and I've gotten a few comments about my skin glowing. Also, a little goes a long way especially if you mostly use it on your face like I do.

Apart from the products being really good I also love the packaging. It's very minimalist yet eye catching and it's also quite affordable.

The pictures in this review are from the gift set of 100ml products but their products mostly come in 250ml.

Thanks for reading and have a lovely day!

Restaurant Review - Food Shack

Hey guys!! Happy New Year! I know it's February but this is my first post of the year.

I hope your year has been off to a great start! January was a bit weird for me and really long, so I couldn't wait for it to be over. I'm very hopeful that the rest of the year will be much better than  January.

Last weekend, my friend was having a photoshoot for the first collection from her fashion line and she asked me to model. I've liked modelling the few times I've done it so I was pretty excited.

The photoshoot was at Food Shack in Victoria Island and after the shoot, we decided to order something to eat.

The first time I went to Food Shack, it was late and dark and I didn't bother taking any pictures. This time though, it was during the day and I had my camera with me so I took a few pictures for a review.

The restaurant has a glass exterior and I really like it because the lighting in the restaurant is good for pictures.

Another thing I like about the restaurant is the wooden furniture.

I got the spicy chicken and a side of french fries and I was quite surprised and pleased with the portion size for the chicken since I hadn't eaten all day.

The chicken was actually really spicy but I liked it. My fries were good too but the chicken was lovely.

My friend ordered the 'Zaddy Burger' which was what I had the first time I went there. When I had mine, it was quite filling but I also had mine with wings and fries.

2 of my friends ordered the beef shawarma which took the longest time to get ready for some reason.

The service was good and the food was even better so I'll definitely go back again.

Food Shack is at 32 Ologun Agbeje Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful week!

Christmas Inspired Makeup Look

Hey guys!! How was your weekend?? Mine was pretty cool. On Saturday, I went for a birthday dinner and on Sunday I just rested. I was really exhausted throughout last week so I was really looking forward to the weekend. As I'm typing this though, it's Sunday night and I'm already looking forward to next weekend :'(.

I decided to do a Christmas inspired makeup look because, even though no one is really acting like it, Christmas Day is just 2 weeks away. I've always loved Christmas especially when I was much younger because everyone just seemed so happy and relaxed around that time. I also loved putting up the Christmas tree and getting Christmas presents every year. I still do ;).

For this look, it had to be green and red to go with the Christmas theme I was going for. I have this NYX glitter that I got last month and I was really excited to try it out.

I also wanted to use my Sisi Lade lashes because I wanted to look more "doll like" than natural for this look. I love this glitter and I think I've definitely been leaning more towards bright, sparkly eye looks lately. I have some other glitters from NYX that I'm going to try out in the coming weeks and I'll definitely put up posts of all of them :).

Makeup Post: Pink Cut Crease

Hey people!! It's a new month and it's the last month of the year. How did you do with your resolutions for 2017? Even without checking my list I know I didn't do too great. Maybe next year I'll get an app for that lool :(.

How was your long weekend? Mine was pretty good. I didn't do anything extraordinary but I was really happy to have the extra day off. My week was quite stressful so it was really needed.

On Friday, I decided to try out a makeup look that's a bit different from what I'm used to. I recently learnt how to do a cut crease even though I still have a lot of practise to do. I'm actually a bit late to the cut crease party because it became popular a few years ago. I didn't really like it before, but suddenly I've become obsessed.

For this look, I wasn't sure what I was going for but I knew I wanted a little blue in it. I also wanted to try out my Morphe 35B palette which I got about a month ago.

After throwing a few colours together this was how it came out.

I really love how bright it came out. I'm not sure I would wear it out on a normal day though.

I'm Back!! Again!!!

Hey guys!! How have you been?? This year is really almost over and I'd like to say it went by really fast, but the first half of the year was quite slow for me.

I was working somewhere I really hated and I just felt stuck. Blogging makes me happy but it was the last thing on my mind. I moved somewhere better 4 months ago and things are better now but I just didn't know how to get back into it. I mean, I haven't blogged in 6 months and even before my last posts, I hadn't blogged in a while.

Anyway, I'm back again! For the like 100th time. Thanks to those of you who still visit my blog and my friends who ask about my blog. You guys are awesome :*

A few months ago, I decided to get back into makeup. I stopped when I started working last year but I'm back on it now :D.

For this look, I just wanted to try out the new lashes I got from Sisi Lade lashes. They're not what I'm used to because they're quite long and full but I wanted to give it a try.

I liked how they turned out and they were quite easy to apply. I say this because, I'm really not the best at applying lashes and some lashes are harder to use than others but this was pretty easy.

I'll do another post on the products I used for this look soon.

Thanks for reading and have a beautiful week guys!

Product Review: Creme of Nature Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme

Hey people!! How are you and how was your long weekend? Mine was pretty awesome. I mostly hung out with friends and just rested.

I got this Creme of Nature leave in conditioner a few months ago when I was trying out new leave in conditioners. I was looking for a conditioner with no coconut oil and as little proteins as possible.

I remember my sister used the argan oil butter milk last year and she really liked it. I didn't want to use that because it had coconut oil in it but I decided to give the "pudding perfection" a chance since it had no coconut oil.

INGREDIENTS

Aqua (Water) (Eau), Dimethicone, Ceteareth-20, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Glycereth-26, Parfum (Fragrance), Cetearyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Glyceryl Stearate, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Panthenol, PEG-40 Stearate, Disodium EDTA, Tocopheryl Acetate, Triethanolamine, Benzyl Benzoate, Linalool, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylisothiazolinone, CI 19140 (Yellow 5), CI 16035 (Red 40)

DIRECTIONS

Scoop a liberal amount into your hand and smooth downward on small sections of damp hair using fingertips. Then twist, shingle, coil or wash and go. Do not rinse. Air dry or diffuse. For curl elongation, use a blow dryer with a nozzle attachment on fully dried hair and direct heat from roots to mid-shaft.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

It feels creamy and is a bit thick. It also smells really floral and a bit like caramel. I really like how it smells.

HOW I USE IT

I use it after deep conditioning and co-washing my hair to moisturise. I use a mixture of the conditioner and glycerine, and then use castor oil or shea butter to seal.

The first few times I used it, I really liked it. It wasn't as great as my beloved Kinky Curly Knot Today but it was moisturising and it was the best I had tried this year.

Unfortunately, I noticed the last 2 times I used it, my hair was really flaking after. It's possible that it was because my hair was more on the wet side than dry the last few times I used it. At the same time, I felt like maybe it just wasn't working that well for my hair anymore so I went back to my kinky curly knot today and the difference was clear.

From other reviews I've read, mixing it with other products can cause it to flake. The problem is, using it alone won't keep my hair moisturised.

I like this product and it's quite moisturising. It was also not too expensive at N3,000 especially since the prices of everything have practically doubled this year.

I would recommend it because it's actually moisturising  and not too expensive. I'll just advise that you don't mix it with too many products.

Have you tried this leave-in conditioner? What was your experience with it?
