Why It May Seem Like Your Hair Isn't Growing

Hey guys! How's your week going? Today has been soo long so I'm happy tomorrow is Cds Thursday :D

Last year, I didn't notice much of a difference in the length of my hair for almost 6 months. I found this really frustrating because I felt like I was taking care of my hair so I didn't understand why it just wasn't growing. I even tried the Inversion method but that's a story for another day abeg lol.

On average, our hair grows about 1/2 an inch a month. This varies in different people so it could be more or it could be less. If your hair is breaking just as much as it's growing then it may seem like your hair isn't growing but you're actually just not retaining length.

These are a few reasons why it may seem like your hair isn't growing:

Your hair is breaking as fast as it's growing

There are so many things that can cause breakage. Combing natural hair dry or with a small comb causes serious breakage. Last year, I got tired of telling the person doing my braids to stop using a small comb and I would end up with a lot of hair in the comb. I knew this was bad for my hair but like I said, I got tired of complaining. It was when I noticed I hadn't retained any length for months that I didn't let that small comb near my hair. I started stretching my hair before doing my braids to make it easier to get my braids done. A few months later I started retaining  length again.

Failing to take care of your hair while it's in a protective style.

This is another cause of breakage. There is no point of a protective style if you're not going to take care of your hair . I can remember how dry my hair was the last time I did a weave. To be honest though, I actually spritzed and oiled my scalp even while I had the weave and my hair was still dry and brittle so I guess it just doesn't like weaves.

When your hair is in a protective style it gives you a break from your natural hair but you shouldn't abandon it. Spritzing your scalp and the part of your hair where the braids stop, and also washing your hair helps to keep your scalp moisturised and reduces breakage especially when taking out braids.

Skipping Deep Conditioning

Failing to Deep condition often can also cause breakage especially if you have really dry hair. I've dedicated a whole post  to deep conditioning so you know how important I think it is. It really helps in reducing breakage.

Health problems

There are a lot of health problems that actually affect hair growth. Along with health problems, there are also medications that stunt hair growth. If you're having any issues affecting hair growth, I'll recommend seeing a trained professional or a specialist.

    1. Hello! Congrats on your big chop! Styles you can do would depend on the length of your hair. You can do twist outs, Bantu knots, braid outs. YouTube has a lot of tutorials that you can check out :)

    1. Helloo. You might need to change your regimen or stop using a particular product. Also your health plays a part in hair growth so if you don't, try drinking more water and eating more fruits. I hope this helps :)
