Things You Need To Take To NYSC Camp
Hey guys! Happy Worker's day!!
For those of you going to camp in a few days good luck! If you choose to stay in camp try to have fun because, believe it or not, camp is actually the fun part. Click here to read about my Nysc orientation camp experience.
Here's a list of things you'll need to take to camp:
1. Documents: Along with the original documents, you need to take photocopies of your call up letter, Statement of result, Degree certificate, School ID Card, etc. If you already know where you want to work and you've been accepted, you should also take your Request Letter with you.
2. White Shorts: You need to take a lot of white shorts with you because you're going to wear them every day in camp. They'll give you 2 white shorts in camp which will probably not be your size. You can buy shorts in camp but it's better to go with your own shorts that are your size.
3. White T-shirts: You're also going to wear white T-shirts everyday and just like the shorts they will give you in camp, the white T-shirts will probably not be your size. The quality is also really bad so you should go to camp with a lot of white t-shirts. Make sure your T-shirts are high round-neck t-shirts.
4. White Tennis Shoes & White Socks: Basically, your everyday outfit in camp will be white T-shirt, white shorts and white tennis shoes. The camp shoes apart from not being the finest of shoes get dirty really easily because of all the activities you'll be doing. You can buy white tennis shoes before going to camp but, they'll also get really dirty so I suggest you buy the white rubber shoes they sell in Mami market in camp. They're really easy to clean and they're also quite cheap.
5. Waist Pouch: Having a waist pouch in camp is very essential. You need to keep your valuables in your waist pouch at all times or they'll disappear. So things like your money, your phone, your padlock for your box, your favourite lipstick (if you're like me) should be in your waist pouch. You can also keep your ID Card and your biros in it. Obviously you need a bigger waist pouch if you like to carry a lot of stuff around.
6. Towel, Detergent & Dettol: Don't forget to take your towel. I don't remember if there were towels in camp and even if there were.... just don't forget your towel please. Also, don't forget to take detergent for washing your clothes and socks, and dettol for your bath water.
7. Hangers: You need hangers to dry your things and also for hanging your towel whenever you're taking a bath. You can buy hangers in camp but if you have a lot of hangers at home you might as well just take a few with you.
8. Bedsheet, Pillow, Wrapper: You can also buy a pillow in camp but if you have enough space in your box you can just take a pillow with you. It will probably be much softer than the pillows they sell in camp. There's no point taking a duvet to camp so I suggest you take a wrapper with you.
9. Bucket & Bowl: You can buy these in camp if you don't want to carry too much with you on your first day. However, they also have these in Mami market so you can buy them there on your first day.
10. Bathroom Slippers: For going into the bathroom. This is very important!!
11. Torchlight: I hardly used my torchlight in camp to be honest. I only used it the times I was looking for my shoes under the bed.
12. Padlocks: Keep your box locked at all times but still take the important things out of your box and keep them in your waist pouch before locking it. I heard they tore open someone's box when I was in camp.
13. Novel: If you read novels, you should take 1 or 2 with you for the boring lectures you'll get between 9am and 2pm every day.
Ps: Don't bother taking a camera with you. Cameras are not allowed and they'll search your box at the gate.
Good luck again! I hope this helps :)
Glad I'm seeing this post. I don't have a padlock yet. Thanks
